Severe Storms Batter New South Wales, Threaten Destructive Winds and Hail

On November 8, 2025, severe storms are forecast to move across the state of New South Wales, posing a serious threat to the region. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the storms have the potential to bring destructive winds of over 125 km/h and large hail exceeding 2 cm in diameter.

The severe weather is expected to primarily affect the Hunter, mid-north coast, and northern tablelands of NSW, though the Sydney metropolitan area is also at risk, particularly in the late morning and early afternoon. The storms could cause significant damage to cars, property, and vegetation, potentially bringing down trees, tree limbs, and power lines, leading to power outages and traffic disruptions.

In addition to the threat of destructive winds and large hail, the storms also carry the risk of localized heavy rain and flash flooding. Thunderstorms are also forecast in parts of Queensland and Victoria, though the severity is expected to be lower than in NSW.

Ahead of the cold front, high fire danger and warm temperatures are expected across much of central and eastern NSW, with a fire weather warning issued for the north-western fire district. Meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation and will issue further warnings and updates as necessary.
