Delhi shivered through its coldest morning of the current winter season on Friday, January 9, 2026. The minimum temperature recorded was a biting 4.6° Celsius, a substantial 2.3° Celsius below the seasonal normal, signaling a significant drop in temperatures. This sharp decline in mercury was accompanied by trace rainfall in several areas of the national capital, intensifying the cold weather.
Specific weather stations reported varying low temperatures, with Safdarjung registering 4.6° Celsius and Palam at 5.0° Celsius. Lodhi Road and Ridge stations also recorded below-normal temperatures. Ayanagar noted the lowest minimum temperature among the listed areas at 4.8° Celsius. While Safdarjung and Lodhi Road received trace rainfall, Ayanagar recorded 0.8 mm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that cold wave conditions are expected to continue over parts of north and northwest India, including the Delhi-NCR region, over the next few days. The maximum temperature is anticipated to remain around 17° Celsius. Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality remains in the 'very poor' category.
