The national capital, Delhi, endured its third-coldest winter day on Thursday, registering a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius. This significant drop in temperature brought a sharp chill across the city, with maximum temperatures falling below normal at all monitoring stations. Palam was identified as the coldest area, experiencing a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius.
Safdarjung, Delhi's primary weather station, recorded a minimum of 5.8 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees below the usual for this time of year. The maximum temperature also dipped, settling at 17.5 degrees Celsius, approximately 1.5 degrees below the seasonal average. Palam registered the lowest maximum temperature at 14.5 degrees Celsius.
Residents also contended with dense fog in the early morning hours, which reduced visibility to as low as 100 meters in Palam and 500 meters in Safdarjung before gradually improving. This harsh weather follows Delhi's first 'cold day' of the year on January 6, when the maximum temperature dropped to 15.7 degrees Celsius.
