The Indian capital, Delhi, is facing another day of significant rainfall and stormy conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for all districts from 8:15 AM to 11:15 AM on Friday, forecasting light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds gusting up to 45 kmph. Isolated heavy rainfall is also anticipated.
Following the red alert, a yellow alert remains in effect for the remainder of the day, predicting generally cloudy skies with scattered spells of very light to moderate rain. This persistent wet spell began Thursday night, causing a noticeable drop in temperatures and ushering in winter-like conditions. The rains also contributed to a significant improvement in air quality, with Delhi's AQI falling to 133 (Moderate) from the 'Poor' category.
Meanwhile, surrounding regions like Uttarakhand are also experiencing continuous rain. High-altitude areas such as Kedarnath and Gangotri have seen snowfall. Specific districts in Uttarakhand are under an 'orange' alert for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Authorities are urging caution for travelers, particularly those heading to pilgrimage sites, emphasizing the need for warm beverages and adherence to safety guidelines.
