Delhi Drenched: Red Alert Issued Amidst Heavy Rains

Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) are grappling with another bout of heavy rainfall. The downpour on Tuesday led to extensive waterlogging across various parts of the capital, significantly impacting traffic flow on major roads. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed all 11 districts of Delhi under a red alert, forecasting continued rain and thunderstorms, with isolated locations potentially experiencing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

This follows intense showers on Monday that brought parts of Delhi-NCR to a standstill. Gurugram was particularly hard-hit, experiencing severe waterlogging and traffic congestion. In response, the administration recommended work-from-home arrangements for Tuesday and advised educational institutions to switch to online classes. Rainfall data indicates that Delhi has already recorded above-normal precipitation at several observatories, with some exceeding the average by up to 66%.
