Delhi-NCR Drenched: Relief From Heat as Storms Arrive
30 Apr
Summary
- Rain and strong winds brought relief from extreme heat in Delhi-NCR.
- Yellow and orange alerts are active for parts of the national capital.
- Temperatures are expected to remain below 40 degrees Celsius until Thursday.

Delhi-NCR residents woke up to much-needed relief on Wednesday morning as rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms swept through the region, ending the ongoing heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued both yellow and orange alerts for Delhi and surrounding areas, with forecasts indicating further chances of thunderstorms, rain, and dust storms later in the day.
A western disturbance is responsible for this sharp weather change across the national capital and its neighbors. Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to 40 km/h, is expected across Delhi and NCR. Similar conditions are predicted for Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad.
Maximum temperatures across Delhi dropped by three to five degrees Celsius on Tuesday and are expected to remain below 40 degrees Celsius until at least Thursday. While clear skies are anticipated from May 1, with a gradual rise in mercury, there's a possibility of very light rain and thunderstorms on May 3 and 4. Southwest Delhi is under an orange alert due to thunderstorms with winds up to 60 kmph.
