Delhi-NCR on Alert: 90 kmph Winds & Severe Storms Loom
30 May
Summary
- Severe weather alerts issued for Delhi and NCR regions.
- Thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rain expected.
- Winds up to 90 kmph with potential hailstorms predicted.

Residents across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) have been issued an "Extremely Severe Alerts" notification on their phones. The warning indicates dangerous weather conditions expected over the next three hours, including thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate to heavy rainfall.
Wind speeds are predicted to range between 60-80 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching 90 kmph. Hailstorms are also a possibility in some affected areas. Authorities are strongly advising residents to remain indoors and avoid all non-essential travel. They also recommend staying away from open spaces, trees, and electric poles due to the high-speed winds and lightning risk.
The alert comes as northern India experiences rapid weather shifts, leading to sudden thunderstorms and intense rainfall. Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert for light rainfall and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph. This yellow alert is expected to continue through Sunday.
