Summary
- Delhi's maximum temperature reached 34.4°C on Friday, 7°C above normal.
- Temperatures are rising unusually early across northwest India.

Clear skies and sunshine propelled Delhi's maximum temperature to 34.4°C on Friday, a striking 7°C above the seasonal norm, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data. This marks a continuation of an unusual early warming trend across northwest India, with daytime highs consistently exceeding 33°C in recent days. Weather scientists predict this pattern will persist, with temperatures potentially nearing 36°C by early next week, surpassing historical early-season thresholds.
The IMD forecasts that maximum temperatures will remain 5 to 7 degrees above normal for northwest India's plains for the next few days. Nighttime temperatures are also elevated, with minimums hovering around 17°C, nearly 4°C higher than usual. No significant change in weather is anticipated for the upcoming week. Delhi's air quality, currently in the 'moderate' category, is expected to dip into 'poor' on Saturday before returning to 'moderate' by Sunday.
Separately, a winter pollution assessment revealed Ghaziabad, Noida, and Delhi as the most polluted cities from October 2025 to February 2026. A substantial majority of Indian cities monitored recorded PM2.5 levels above national standards during this winter period.
