New Delhi is currently experiencing its hottest day of the year, with the Ridge area registering a high of 43 degrees Celsius on Thursday. This marks the highest temperature recorded this season, surpassing previous highs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant heatwave alert, forecasting scorching conditions across north-west India for the next four to five days.
Central and east India are also under a heatwave advisory for the upcoming two to three days. Temperatures in Delhi, particularly at Safdarjung, have been consistently above normal, reaching 41.7 degrees Celsius on Thursday. The IMD predicts maximum temperatures to remain between 42-44 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday, with a surge also expected in minimum temperatures.
In parallel, air quality in the capital has seen an improvement, moving to moderate levels. However, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has identified numerous violations related to visible road dust and construction waste accumulation. Authorities have been directed to enhance dust control measures, including mechanized sweeping and water sprinkling.
