Delhi is currently experiencing severe heat, with the maximum temperature recorded at 42.1°C on Monday. A yellow alert for heatwave conditions is in effect, with temperatures anticipated to hover between 43°C and 45°C. However, significant weather changes are expected starting Tuesday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a shift towards relief from Tuesday onwards, with overcast skies and rain. Maximum temperatures are projected to fall to 40-42°C on Tuesday and further decrease to 39-41°C on Wednesday. By Thursday, temperatures could drop to approximately 37°C.
More dynamic weather is anticipated on April 28 and 29, with predictions of thunderstorms accompanied by rain. These events may include strong dust storms with wind gusts of 40-80 km/h, followed by short spells of moderate to heavy rain. While thunderstorms are expected, the risk of hailstorms is considered low.
This weather system is expected to bring isolated to scattered rainfall activity across North India. Delhi-NCR may see initial storm activity with 30-50% coverage, with a wider spread predicted across several states between April 28 and 30.
