Summary
- Delhi's maximum temperature expected to reach 40°C by Wednesday.

Delhi is set to experience a sharp increase in temperatures, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a rise to 40°C by Wednesday, April 17, 2026. This follows a cooler period, with Saturday's maximum temperature recorded at 34.7°C, still below normal. The minimum temperature is also expected to climb by 1-2°C daily, reaching 23-25°C by Thursday, April 18, 2026.
Experts attribute the warming trend to dry winds and continuous sunshine, with no significant weather activity anticipated. Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather indicated that heatwave-like conditions might develop as temperatures approach 40°C and exceed normal by 4.5°C. The city previously recorded a low of 28.2°C on April 8, 2026, and has seen a steady increase since then.
Comparatively, Delhi experienced higher temperatures in early April of the previous year, 2025, with a maximum of 39°C recorded on April 3 and over 40°C by April 7. A three-day heatwave occurred from April 7 to April 9, 2025, with the highest April temperature reaching 41°C. The air quality is currently in the 'moderate' category, expected to remain so or shift to 'poor' over the next six days.
