Delhi experienced a maximum temperature of 42.8°C on Saturday, a significant 5.1°C above the normal for this time of year. In response to the escalating heatwave conditions, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital has operationalized a dedicated heatwave clinic within its emergency room.
This specialized unit, launched on May 8, 2024, is equipped with advanced cooling equipment, including immersion tubs and ventilator-supported beds, to manage heatstroke patients effectively. Doctors emphasize the critical need for immediate cooling therapy to prevent life-threatening organ failure.
Other major hospitals in Delhi, such as Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, are also stepping up their preparations. They are ensuring adequate supplies of cold intravenous fluids, ice packs, and have designated specific beds for heat-related cases.
While no confirmed heatstroke cases have been reported this season, hospitals are noting an increase in heat exhaustion cases. Medical professionals stress that timely intervention is crucial to prevent severe complications and fatalities from heat-related illnesses.
