New Delhi is grappling with rising temperatures as Tuesday's maximum temperature at Safdarjung reached 38.8 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees above the seasonal norm. Despite the significant heat, the city has not yet experienced official heatwave conditions this season. Several monitoring stations reported high temperatures, with Lodi Road recording 39.0 degrees Celsius, 2.0 degrees above average, and the Ridge station registering the highest at 40.2 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees above normal.
Minimum temperatures across the capital were also below average, with Safdarjung recording 20.5 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees lower than expected. The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast predicting heatwave conditions to commence on Wednesday, April 23, 2026, and continue through April 24, 2026. During this period, the maximum temperature is expected to climb to approximately 42 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is anticipated to hover around 22 degrees Celsius.
