Delhi Shivers: Yellow Alert for Fog and Cold Day Conditions
7 Jan
Summary
- Yellow alert issued for dense fog and potential cold day conditions.
- Maximum temperatures may fall to 12-15°C for up to 10 days.
- Delhi's air quality index has deteriorated to the 'very poor' range.

Delhi is currently experiencing a severe cold spell, marked by dense fog and 'cold day' conditions, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert valid until Thursday.
Meteorological experts predict this intense cold to persist across northern India, including Delhi, until January 15. Maximum temperatures in the capital are expected to hover between 12-15°C for the next ten days, with minimum temperatures potentially dropping to 3-4°C. Visibility has been significantly reduced by fog, with morning visibility at 250 metres.
Compounding the chill, Delhi's air quality has declined to the 'very poor' category, with forecasts indicating no immediate improvement. The combination of icy northwesterly winds and persistent fog is contributing to the frigid daytime temperatures and a gradual decrease in minimum temperatures.
