According to the latest weather update, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, forecasting light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40-50km/hour on Monday, October 3rd, 2025.
The upcoming rainfall is expected to help clear pollutants from the capital's air, which had slipped back to the 'moderate' category on Saturday, October 1st, 2025, after a brief spell of cleaner air. Officials say scattered showers are also expected on Sunday, October 2nd, 2025, with more widespread rain likely on Monday and Tuesday, October 3rd and 4th, 2025.
The precipitation is predicted to bring minimum and maximum temperatures down by a couple of degrees. Delhi's 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) on Saturday stood at 138, a marginal deterioration from the previous day's 'satisfactory' level of 88, the lowest post-Dussehra in three years. Meteorologists attribute the slight increase in pollution levels to a drop in wind speed and the absence of rainfall on Saturday.
However, the outlook for the subsequent six days suggests the air quality will fluctuate between the 'satisfactory' and 'moderate' categories, with the possibility of improvement from Monday onwards as the rain helps disperse pollutants.
