Delhi's air quality index (AQI) improved from the 'very poor' to the 'poor' category on Monday, primarily due to sustained strong winds. The AQI was recorded at 244 in the afternoon, a significant decrease from the previous day's reading of 307. India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported wind speeds reaching 15 kmph, which aided in clearing pollutants from the air.
The air quality early warning system (EWS) has projected a potential dip into the 'moderate' category for Tuesday, January 6. However, this pleasant outlook is anticipated to be brief, with forecasts indicating a return to the 'poor' range on January 7 and 8. The outlook for the subsequent six days suggests a prevailing 'poor to very poor' air quality scenario.
In addition to the improved air quality, Delhi experienced clear skies with mist but no fog on Monday. Visibility was reported at 1,600 meters at Safdarjung and 1,500 meters at Palam. The minimum temperature also dropped to 6.6 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 18 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal.
