Delhi Breathes Easier as AQI Improves, Restrictions Eased
17 Mar
Summary
- Delhi's air quality improved to satisfactory levels on Monday morning.
- The Commission for Air Quality Management has completely revoked GRAP measures.
- Light rain and gusty winds are anticipated from Wednesday onwards.

As of Monday morning, Delhi's air quality has improved to the satisfactory category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 119. This marks a significant improvement from the previous day's AQI of 175. Consequently, the Commission for Air Quality Management has fully revoked the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) from the region.
The last time Delhi experienced no GRAP measures in place was on October 13 last year. While the AQI reached 97 (satisfactory) by late morning, it began to rise as sunlight increased, with ozone being the primary pollutant. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) predict the AQI will likely remain in the moderate category until at least Thursday.
Looking ahead, light rain and gusty winds, potentially reaching up to 40 km/hour, are expected from Wednesday. A yellow alert has been issued for Friday, indicating a possibility of at least two spells of rain throughout the day. Delhi's maximum temperature on Monday was 32.2 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal, while the minimum temperature was 17.4 degrees Celsius.
