The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the region, starting Saturday evening, January 24th, and continuing until Monday morning, January 26th. Snowfall is expected to commence on Saturday night and persist through Monday afternoon.
Areas closer to the coast and further south may experience lower totals due to an increased chance of sleet and freezing rain. Wilmington could see 12 to 18 inches, Dover 8 to 12 inches, and Bethany Beach 6 to 8 inches. Ice and sleet are anticipated throughout Sunday, January 25th, with blowing snow expected from Sunday into Monday.
Forecasters also warn of potential disruptions from freezing rain, with accumulations of 0.1 to 0.25 inches expected along the I-95 corridor and southern Delaware. Cold temperatures and low wind chills are predicted to affect the state from Friday, January 23rd, through Wednesday night, January 28th.
