On 2025-10-13T12:20:16+00:00, a tropical storm has been battering parts of Mexico, particularly in the central and southeastern regions, leading to the deaths of around 40 people. The storm has also resulted in landslides, the damage of over 1,000 km of roads, and power cuts affecting 300,000 people.
Meanwhile, in Spain, the coastal areas from Alicante and Benidorm in the southeast to Barcelona in the northeast, as well as the Balearic islands, have been experiencing severe flooding due to a weather system known as Storm Alice. This is the first time a Dana, an upper-atmospheric depression, has been given an official name by the Southwest European Storm Naming Group. The heavy rainfall, with hourly rates exceeding 60 mm, has caused flash flooding, leading to travel chaos, including flight cancellations and stranded holidaymakers, as well as damage to property.
The extreme weather in both Mexico and Spain is expected to continue for the next few days, with Storm Alice moving eastward towards the Italian islands of Sardinia and Sicily.
