On November 2, 2025, daylight saving time will come to an end across the United States. At 2 a.m. on that Sunday, smart devices and clocks will automatically shift back an hour, marking the conclusion of the annual period that runs from March to November.
This biannual ritual, established by the Uniform Time Act of 1966, aims to make the most of natural daylight and conserve energy. As a result of the clocks turning back, residents in Staunton, Virginia, for example, will see sunrise move from around 7:40 a.m. to 6:40 a.m., while sunset will shift from 6:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
The only two states that do not participate in daylight saving time are Hawaii and the majority of Arizona, excluding the Navajo Nation. Five U.S. territories also do not observe the time change. For the rest of the country, the next time clocks will be adjusted will be in March 2026, when daylight saving time begins again.
