The Collectorate in Cuddalore hosted a crucial review meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, focusing on preparedness for the northeast monsoon. Line departments were tasked with establishing robust emergency response protocols to manage monsoon-related incidents and potential infrastructure damage.
Emphasis was placed on coordinating efforts between revenue, local bodies, and public works departments. Officials are mandated to inspect schools and designated relief camps, verifying the structural integrity of buildings and ensuring the availability of adequate drinking water and sanitation facilities for potential evacuees.
Furthermore, directives were issued to enhance vigilance around water bodies and flood-prone low-lying areas. Immediate action is required to clear blockages in canals, water channels, and stormwater drains across the district, with desilting works to be completed promptly. The 24-hour control room at the Collectorate will remain operational for public complaints.
Readiness extends to healthcare, with instructions to maintain sufficient medicine stocks at primary health centers and government hospitals. Essential machinery, including earthmovers, tree-cutting equipment, vehicles, generators, sandbags, motor pumps, and inflatable boats, must be readily available for swift rescue and relief operations.
