Cold wave conditions continued to grip Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as minimum temperatures plummeted across the regions, particularly in the Kashmir Valley. Several places recorded sub-zero temperatures overnight, with Gulmarg, the famed ski resort, registering the lowest at minus 8.8 degrees Celsius. Srinagar experienced a minimum of minus 3.6 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the Jammu region saw relatively milder conditions, with Jammu city recording a minimum temperature of 8.7 degrees Celsius. However, hill stations like Banihal and Bhaderwah dipped below freezing, recording minus 1.3 and minus 2.1 degrees Celsius respectively. This stark contrast highlights the varied impact of the cold snap.
In Ladakh, intense cold persisted, with Leh recording a chilling minimum of minus 9.6 degrees Celsius. Kargil and Nubra Valley also endured frigid conditions, with temperatures dropping to minus 8.4 and minus 7.5 degrees Celsius respectively, signaling a challenging winter for the high-altitude territories.
