Coastal Flooding Threatens Alexandria and Arlington as High Tides Loom

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued an advisory warning residents of Alexandria and Arlington County, Virginia, about the impending tidal flooding. According to the alert, around 1 foot of water above ground level is expected in some flood-prone areas due to the high tides.

The most affected areas are the shoreline regions of the City of Alexandria, particularly the intersection of King Street and Strand Street, where the water is expected to reach the curb. Arlington County's waterfront areas are also under the advisory, and residents in these areas are advised to prepare for the flooding.

The flooding is predicted to occur mainly during high tide, with the next high tide in Alexandria scheduled for around 12:11 PM on Saturday and 12:25 AM on Sunday. The NWS has also provided a weekend weather forecast, which includes mostly cloudy skies, chances of showers, and strong winds.

Residents are advised to avoid driving through flooded areas or around barricades, as the depth of the water may be unknown, and roads may be closed. Those living in flood-prone areas should protect their property by moving valuables to higher ground and checking their drainage systems.

The advisory remains in effect until 4 AM (local time) on Monday, October 13, when the tides are expected to gradually recede.
