Chhattisgarh is currently under the grip of a severe heatwave, with temperatures climbing to a scorching 45°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for 20 districts, forecasting conditions to persist until Sunday. This intense heat is accompanied by extreme ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels, particularly between 11 am and noon.
Daily life in various cities has been altered as residents cope with the oppressive heat. People are seen using scarves and umbrellas for protection, and roadside stalls offering cold drinks are experiencing high demand. The IMD predicts a further rise of 1°C to 3°C in maximum temperatures over the next four days, with no immediate rain relief expected from current weather systems.
Health authorities are urging citizens to take precautions. This includes avoiding unnecessary sun exposure between noon and 4 pm, staying hydrated, and wearing light clothing. Immediate action is advised for anyone showing symptoms of heat illness, such as moving to a cool place and seeking medical attention.
