Beat the Heat: Camden Opens 24-Hour Cooling Centers

As temperatures are expected to climb significantly, Camden County is implementing a pilot program to open cooling centers. These centers, some of which will be available 24 hours a day when overnight temperatures exceed 95 degrees, aim to provide refuge from the heat. Three of these locations will be in the city of Camden, with one in Barrington.

In addition to the cooling centers, the city of Camden plans to open public pools and distribute fans and air conditioners to eligible senior citizens starting Thursday. Health officials are warning about the serious risks posed by the combination of heat and humidity, and emergency room physicians are preparing for an increase in heat-related illnesses. They advise residents to stay hydrated and seek medical attention immediately if they experience severe symptoms like confusion or excessive sweating.
