Brits Told to Seal Homes as Spider Season Begins
23 Aug
Summary
- UK households urged to keep windows closed for 4 weeks
- Spider season runs from mid-August to early October
- Male spiders move around seeking female mates

According to a recent report, households across the United Kingdom are being urged to keep their windows closed 'at all times' for at least the next four weeks. This directive, however, is not due to hot weather, as the Met Office forecasts a more moderate temperature range of 21-25°C over the coming weeks.
The real reason behind this call to action is the onset of spider season in the UK. Starting from mid-August and lasting until early October, this is the time of year when the eight-legged, eight-eyed arachnids make their way into British homes to mate. While female spiders tend to stay put and wait for a male to find them, the males are the ones actively moving around the house in search of a partner.
As a result, UK residents are being advised to seal up their homes and avoid letting these unwelcome guests inside. The spider invasion is expected to be in full swing over the next month, prompting authorities to issue this nationwide warning to the public.
