Brewing Atlantic Storm Poses Threat to US East Coast

As of October 7th, 2025, a new storm system is brewing in the central Atlantic that could soon become the next tropical storm to threaten the US East Coast. According to hurricane forecasters, the developing system, currently known as Invest 95L, has a 70% chance of turning into a tropical cyclone over the next week.

If the system does reach tropical storm status, with a more organized structure and sustained winds of at least 40 mph, it will be named 'Jerry.' The National Hurricane Center has projected that the storm will approach Puerto Rico before potentially turning north, putting the East Coast on alert. Meteorologists have described 95L as a "cluster of showers and thunderstorms" that will likely organize into a tropical storm by the end of the week.

If Jerry does form, it will be the tenth named storm in the Atlantic this year, and forecasters have warned that the US is still in the peak of hurricane season. While many early models predict Jerry will turn out to sea, some tracks show the storm could keep a straighter path, potentially putting the Southeast in danger a week from now. Regardless, the East Coast is advised to closely monitor the system's development in the coming days.
