Borim Bridge Closure: Asphalt Work Causes Nightly Traffic Halt
6 Feb
Summary
- Borim bridge to close nightly for new asphalt layer application.
- Contractor is replacing the bridge's expansion joints.
- Strengthening work includes hinge bearing installation, completed last November.

The Borim bridge is scheduled for a temporary traffic closure to facilitate the application of a new asphalt coat. The bridge will be inaccessible to all traffic from 8pm on Sunday until 8am on Monday to allow for the placement of polymer modified bitumen concrete.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has requested this complete closure to ensure the asphalting process can be carried out without interruption. The contractor, Sanrachana Structural Strengthening Pvt Ltd, has already removed the previous asphalt layer. Following the new coating, the contractor will proceed with the remaining work on the bridge's finger-type expansion joints.
Last month, approximately half of the expansion joints were replaced. The contractor will continue with the replacement of the remaining joints without necessitating a full bridge closure. The bridge features four expansion joints, with only half of the first joint from the Borim side having been updated so far. As part of broader strengthening efforts, the contractor successfully installed central hinge bearings on November 2 of the previous year.
