Blizzard Watch Issued for 3 States
9 Dec, 2025
Summary
- Three states are under a winter storm watch with possible blizzard conditions.
- Strong winds behind the storm could reduce visibility and hamper travel.
- Snowfall expected to be between 3 to 6 inches, with isolated areas up to 8 inches.
A significant winter storm is poised to impact large areas of the United States, bringing the threat of blizzard conditions and hazardous travel. Parts of Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa are currently under a winter storm watch, issued by the National Weather Service. This system is expected to bring several inches of snow and, critically, strong winds.
Meteorologists highlight the danger posed by powerful winds developing behind the storm. These gusts are anticipated to cause extensive blowing snow, severely reducing visibility and making travel extremely difficult. While snowfall amounts are projected to be between 3 to 6 inches, some regions could experience up to 8 inches.
The storm's progression, coupled with an approaching Arctic air mass, raises concerns for millions of Americans, particularly as it coincides with the busy holiday travel season. The system is expected to move out by Wednesday, with winds subsiding by the latter part of the day.
