Bermuda Prepares for Intense 6-Hour Hurricane Imelda Onslaught

As of October 1st, 2025, Bermuda is preparing for a direct hit from Hurricane Imelda, which is expected to bring a six-hour lashing of hurricane-force winds to the island. The outer bands of Hurricane Humberto have already battered Bermuda, and now the island is facing the threat of the stronger and more dangerous Hurricane Imelda.

Imelda, which had maximum sustained winds of 85 mph as of late Tuesday, is forecast to strengthen into a Category 2 hurricane and pass near Bermuda on Wednesday evening. The Bermuda Weather Service has issued a hurricane warning, and the island's minister of national security, Michael Weeks, has warned that Imelda "has the potential to damage and disrupt our island significantly."

In response to the impending threat, Bermuda has closed its international airport and schools, and the government has urged residents to complete all storm preparations by noon on Wednesday. Weeks stressed that this is not a "passing squall" and that Bermuda will endure sustained hurricane-force winds for up to six hours.

Bermuda, a wealthy British territory, is known for its strong concrete structures that can withstand serious storms.
