Following a week of extreme heat, Australian cities are now preparing for significant rainfall and stormy conditions. Forecasts indicate that every state and territory will experience some level of precipitation in the coming days, potentially extending into the following week.
The Northern Territory and central Australia are anticipated to face the most severe weather. Rainfall totals could range from 100mm to several hundred millimeters in certain areas, increasing the risk of flooding.
Meanwhile, some parts of South Australia are still contending with bushfires while simultaneously bracing for potential floods. Western Australia's Gascoyne and Central West regions are under severe heatwave warnings, expecting temperatures up to 42C.
A tropical low over Western Australia and the Northern Territory has been upgraded to tropical cyclone status, with coastal areas warned of winds up to 120km/h. Another low-pressure system is expected to bring rain along the east coast.
