Atlantic Hurricane Season Heats Up: Early Signs Appear
10 Jun
Summary
- An early tropical feature has appeared in the Bay of Campeche.
- Conditions are not expected to favor significant development of this system.
- A quiet end to June is predicted for the Atlantic hurricane season.

The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season has shown early signs of activity with a tropical feature appearing in the Bay of Campeche on Wednesday, June 10. This system, originating from the remnants of Tropical Storm Cristina, is not expected to cause significant development, according to the National Hurricane Center.
However, the disturbance may bring numerous thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough seas to western Mexico and South Texas through Sunday, June 14. Despite this, forecasters anticipate a quiet period for the Atlantic hurricane season through the remainder of June.
Suppressed storm systems and prevailing wind shear are expected to deter significant tropical development across the Atlantic basin. Climate Prediction Center maps also indicate low odds for tropical activity in the Atlantic for the rest of the month, with a higher probability for the Pacific.
