Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has mandated a high alert status for officials to safeguard public health and safety amid severe heatwave conditions across the state. He stressed that protecting human life is the government's utmost priority.
Naidu instructed the immediate implementation of precautionary measures and continuous monitoring of regions experiencing extreme temperatures. The chief minister also directed authorities to consider declaring local holidays in severely affected areas, depending on the situation's severity. Officials noted that El Niño conditions have significantly intensified the heatwave.
To mitigate the effects of the scorching heat, authorities are ensuring the availability of cold drinking water, buttermilk, and ORS packets at crowded public places. District collectors are advised to conduct media briefings to raise public awareness about preventing heatstroke and dehydration. Heat shelters and cooling centers have been established in urban areas, with shade arrangements made at traffic junctions.
Temperatures have recently climbed from 45 to 48 degrees Celsius. The chief minister emphasized the importance of increasing greenery to reduce the impact of extreme temperatures, citing Annamayya district as an example of effective green cover reducing local temperatures. He appealed to the public to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, especially the elderly, pregnant women, children, and those with health issues.
