Alaska is under a Winter Storm Watch as forecasters anticipate heavy snowfall and strong winds across several Interior regions. The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued alerts for the eastern Alaska Range, expecting up to 24 inches of snow from Monday afternoon through late Wednesday night. Areas above 2,500 feet could see the most significant accumulation, accompanied by wind gusts up to 40 mph.
Two additional watches cover other parts of Interior Alaska. The Delta Junction area, Fortymile Country, and Upper Tanana Valley could receive 5 to 10 inches of snow between Monday evening and Wednesday afternoon. The Upper Chena River Valley, White Mountains, and Eagle Summit are forecast to get a similar amount from Tuesday morning through Wednesday afternoon. These conditions are expected to cause very difficult travel and reduced visibility.
A Winter Storm Watch indicates the potential for hazardous weather within 48 hours and may be upgraded to a warning if the storm intensifies. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts.
