As hurricane season reaches its peak, meteorologists were actively monitoring nine tropical systems across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans early on Monday, August 24. Seven of these systems were situated in the Pacific, with two others forming in the Atlantic.
Residents of Hawaii faced potential heavy rain and tropical storm-force gusts from the weakening storm Moke, which passed hundreds of miles south of the islands. The National Weather Service predicted up to 55 mph gusts on the Big Island and up to 45 mph on Oahu and Kauai.
Further east, Tropical Storm Iselle formed off the Mexican coast, expected to briefly become a hurricane before dissipating without threatening land. In the Atlantic, an area of showers and thunderstorms near Bermuda showed signs of organization, with a 50% chance of developing into a storm. Additionally, a tropical wave moving off the coast of Africa was being watched for potential depression formation.
