11 Sep
Summary
- Ugandan army says LRA rebels led by Joseph Kony are being supplied by Sudan
- LRA accused of rape, murder, and recruiting child soldiers
- US sends special forces to help hunt for Kony, wanted for war crimes

According to the Ugandan army, the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a rebel group led by Joseph Kony, is currently being supported and supplied by the Sudanese government. The LRA has a long history of committing heinous acts, including rape, mutilation, and the forced recruitment of child soldiers.
In a recent development, a Ugandan army colonel has stated that they have captured an LRA member wearing a Sudanese uniform and carrying Sudanese weapons and ammunition. However, Sudan's ambassador to London has vehemently denied these allegations, calling them "a big lie" and insisting that Sudan is not and will not help Kony, whom he described as "a criminal."
The US has responded to the ongoing LRA threat by sending a 100-strong special forces mission to assist in the hunt for Kony. This mission is operating from four bases across Central Africa, where the LRA is believed to be moving in small groups, raiding and abducting villagers to serve as fighters, sex slaves, or porters.
The international community has also taken action, with the African Union setting up a 5,000-strong force last month to track down the fugitive warlord. Kony and his close associates have been wanted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court since 2005.
