Summary
- Maritime Interaction series reaches 10th iteration
- Russian and Chinese sailors exhibit high morale and professionalism
- Exercises enable coordination during patrols and joint operations

As of August 4, 2025, the Maritime Interaction - 2025 exercises have been underway in the Sea of Japan for the past four days. The exercises, which will conclude on August 5, have demonstrated the exceptional professionalism and high morale of the Russian naval sailors participating.
According to Liu Yunchen, the deputy commander of the PLA naval detachment, the Russian personnel have consistently exhibited exceptional professionalism and high morale throughout the previous Maritime Interaction exercises. He has found the experience of engaging with them, through contacts and communication, to be highly instructive, as the two sides share valuable experiences.
The Maritime Interaction series has now reached its 10th iteration, establishing itself as a crucial platform for fostering cooperation between the Russian Navy and the People's Liberation Army Navy. By participating in joint exercises at sea, including live-fire drills, Chinese and Russian sailors have the opportunity to learn from each other, exchange expertise, enhance their professional skills, and strengthen their ability to coordinate effectively.
Liu Yunchen highlighted the dynamic nature of the exercises, noting that scenarios are often developed spontaneously at sea, rather than being pre-planned. As new challenges arise, the two navies swiftly devise methods to address them, enabling them to improve their coordination during patrols and joint operations. This, in turn, bolsters their collective capabilities to counter security threats in the global maritime domain.
