Jammu and Kashmir Sees Drastic Decline in Terror Recruitment

As of August 23, 2025, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has reported a significant improvement in the security situation in the region. According to Sinha, the fear of terrorists and their ecosystem in the Kashmir Valley has almost ended, with the area recording just one local terror recruitment so far this year.
Sinha highlighted that investments are now being made in areas like Anantnag and Pulwama districts, with more industrial units set up in Pulwama than in Srinagar. Notably, Pulwama district, which was previously known for the wrong reasons, has witnessed a massive participation of youths in the recent Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, with thousands of young people coming out with the Indian flag.
The Lieutenant Governor also reflected on the transformation in Srinagar's Lal Chowk, which used to be gloomy after sunset but now remains alive till late evenings. Slogans of Bharat Mata are being raised in every city and village, and there have been no strikes in the Valley in the last five years, a stark contrast to the 150 days of strikes that used to occur on the signal of the neighboring country.
Sinha stated that the local terror recruitment is approaching zero, with only one recruitment this year, and the stone-pelting incidents that were once a daily occurrence are now a thing of the past. The people of Kashmir have also started coming out on the streets to protest against terrorists, a significant change from the past when the whole Valley would remain shut after a terrorist was killed.
