A centenarian veteran, who served in Burma during World War Two, has been laid to rest. Tom McKenzie, aged 100, was remembered at a funeral service in Scunthorpe.
He was described by his daughter as a "very fun, happy-go-lucky man" who "lived for the day." His family shared fond memories, including his role as "donkey grandad" to his great-grandchildren.
The funeral saw attendance from the Winterton & District Royal British Legion and a contingent from the Royal Yorkshire Regiment. A legion secretary highlighted the significance of honoring war veterans as a "fading generation."
McKenzie served in the 1st Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment in 1945. His daughter noted his pride in his regiment and his lifelong remembrance of his army number.
