In Westbury, Wiltshire, a significant Remembrance project is underway, aiming to craft 10,000 poppies for display on November 8th. The initiative, spearheaded by the Westbury Yarn Bombers, seeks to create an extensive tribute by adorning local lampposts and bollards with knitted and crocheted creations. This community effort has garnered support from volunteers across the region, including the Crafting Smiles group in Bristol, who have already contributed hundreds of poppies.
This collaborative art installation, which involves decorating public spaces with textile art, will also be repurposed. Plans are in motion to utilize the poppy display as a 'Remembrance veil' at Westbury Library in 2027, extending its impact beyond the initial commemoration. The Westbury Yarn Bombers, established in 2022, received a £2,000 donation from the Westbury Area Board to procure necessary yarn supplies for this ambitious project.
