Remains of U.S. Army 1st Lt. Kendrick Lamont Key Jr., 27, were recovered from the Atlantic Ocean in Morocco on Saturday. Key and another soldier went missing on May 2 after reportedly falling from a cliff during a recreational hike near the Cap Draa Training Area.
Key's remains were found approximately one mile from where the soldiers entered the water. A comprehensive search-and-rescue operation, involving over 600 personnel from the U.S., Morocco, and partner nations, utilized ships, helicopters, and drones.
The incident occurred near the Cap Draa Training Area following the African Lion exercise, an annual multinational military drill hosted across Morocco, Tunisia, Ghana, and Senegal. Search efforts for the second missing soldier are ongoing.
1st Lt. Key was assigned to Charlie Battery, 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment. He entered military service in 2023 and is survived by his parents, sister, and brother-in-law.
