Operated remotely from up to 15 miles away or via artificial intelligence, the UGV defended a sector that would typically require up to six soldiers. This allowed Ukrainian troops to avoid direct engagement and remain out of harm's way. The robot briefly left its post every two days for essential maintenance, ammunition resupply, and battery recharging by a crew stationed approximately 2.4 miles from the front line.
The success of the DevDroid TW 12.7 highlights the increasing reliance on robotic warfare in Ukraine. The Third Army Corps' NC-13 Strike Company, specializing in UGVs, plans broader deployment in both defensive and offensive operations. Other versions of the drone, including those equipped with grenade launchers, are also being approved for front-line use, underscoring the strategic advantage of robotic systems that do not risk human lives.
