Ukraine's Defense Chief Vows Data-Driven Military Overhaul

Ukraine's newly appointed defense minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, has pledged a significant, data-centric transformation of the country's military. His strategy focuses on rewarding commanders for battlefield achievements to gain an advantage over Russia's larger forces. Fedorov emphasized the "mathematics of war," aiming to use "high-quality data" to address budget gaps and improve management decisions.

Fedorov plans to launch mission control systems for drone and artillery crews to enhance performance data collection. A notable initiative is creating a system for allies to train their artificial intelligence military models using Ukraine's extensive combat data, gathered over nearly four years of conflict. This data, including millions of hours of drone footage, is crucial for AI development.

Ukraine also plans to test a domestically produced drone, intended as a replacement for China's DJI Mavic, this month. This move addresses concerns about reliance on Chinese components amid deepening ties between China and Russia. The new drone aims to offer similar capabilities with extended flight range.
