UK Tech Found in Russian Killer Drones
8 Nov
Summary
- British computer tech was found in Russian drones as recently as September.
- Ukraine's sanctions chief called for stricter controls on parts.
- Raspberry Pi components were reportedly in over 120,000 drones launched by Russia.

Recent evidence reveals that British-made computer technology, specifically components from Raspberry Pi, continues to be utilized in Russia's jet-powered killer drone fleet. Ukrainian intelligence reported finding these parts in recently downed drones as late as September. This discovery has prompted an investigation by Ukraine's Security Service into the Cambridge-based company.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky's sanctions chief, Vladyslav Vlasiuk, has called for enhanced measures to halt the diversion of these critical flight control computers to Russia. Vlasiuk stated that Russian forces have launched over 120,000 Shahed-type drones since 2022, with Raspberry Pi components reportedly present in nearly all of them. He stressed that current efforts to prevent technology transfer are insufficient and better oversight of third-party supply chains is imperative. A Raspberry Pi microcomputer was recovered from a Geran-5 drone shot down on September 2. The company previously expressed disappointment regarding its products reaching Russia and condemned such illegal trades. A UK government spokesperson affirmed their serious approach to reports of British goods being diverted to Russia.
