A planned jihadist attack targeting Taylor Swift's August 2024 concerts in Vienna was thwarted by Austrian authorities, with crucial intelligence provided by the U.S. This near-tragedy is now the subject of a documentary, tentatively titled 'Taylor Swift Wien.'
The film will juxtapose the inclusive world of Swift's fans with the toxic masculinity driving radicalization. Two teenage perpetrators, reportedly intending to use explosives, aimed to maximize casualties among the expected 200,000 attendees at Ernst Happel Stadium.
Authorities, including intelligence agencies from Austria, Germany, the U.K., and the U.S., worked against a ticking clock to prevent the attack. The documentary will also follow three female fans who, following the cancellations, organized psychological support and met with Austrian officials, including Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
The main perpetrator, identified as Beran A., a 19-year-old Austrian citizen, had sworn allegiance to the Islamic State. Producers noted his radicalization through social media platforms like TikTok, characterizing him as part of a new generation of globally radicalized youth distinct from older terrorist groups.
'Taylor Swift Wien' aims to blend genres, including a thriller element, a narrative of female empowerment, and an examination of the modern online manosphere. Swift's management has been informed about the documentary, which is slated for broadcast on German broadcaster ZDF in October 2027, followed by an international release.
