A former Royal Navy warship, HMS Ambuscade, which played a role in the Falklands War, is facing potential destruction. Built in Glasgow in 1975, the vessel served the Royal Navy until 1993 before being sold to Pakistan, where it was renamed PNS Tariq.
During its service in Pakistan, the ship was instrumental in rescuing 377 tourists from the Maldives following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Now, a charity called Clyde Naval Heritage aims to bring the historic frigate back to the River Clyde to be established as a floating museum.
However, the Pakistan Navy has mandated that the vessel must depart from Karachi by the end of September. This directive comes as the required £2 million for its transfer has nearly doubled, largely due to escalating insurance costs influenced by recent conflicts impacting international shipping routes. The charity's chief executive expressed grave concern, noting the Pakistan Navy's ultimatum to "dispose" of the ship if it is not removed by the deadline, with current circumstances appearing unfavorable.
