Russia is set to lay down two more Velikiye Luki-class (Project 677 Lada) diesel-electric submarines in early 2026, according to the Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief. These submarines represent a significant advancement in non-nuclear naval technology. The construction of these two vessels follows existing contracts under the current defense order, signaling a commitment to expanding this critical part of Russia's maritime capabilities.
The Lada-class submarines are renowned for their exceptional stealth, operating quietly and capable of reaching depths of around 300 meters. Measuring 66.8 meters in length and 7.1 meters in width, they possess a submerged speed of 21 knots. These submarines are manned by a crew of 35 and have an endurance of 45 days, making them well-suited for extended missions.
