Pakistan Denies Afghan University Strikes as 'Blatant Lie'
28 Apr
Summary
- Mortars from Pakistan killed seven and wounded 85 in Afghanistan's Kunar Province.
- Pakistan denies targeting the university, calling Afghan reports 'frivolous and fake'.
- The strikes occurred despite recent Chinese-mediated peace talks between the nations.

Mortars and missiles originating from Pakistan struck civilian homes and a university in Afghanistan's Kunar Province on Monday, resulting in seven fatalities and injuring 85 others, according to Afghan officials. The Pakistani Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has dismissed these reports as "a blatant lie," asserting that "no strike has been carried out on Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan University" and characterizing the claims as "frivolous and fake."
This violent incident follows recent Chinese-mediated peace talks held in early April, which aimed to foster de-escalation after months of deadly cross-border fighting. Afghanistan accuses Pakistan of harboring militants, particularly the TTP, while Pakistan claims Afghanistan provides refuge to fighters attacking its soil.
The attacks, which hit Asadabad city and other areas in Kunar Province, injured students and civilians, with Afghan officials condemning the actions as an "unforgivable war crime." The Sayed Jamaluddin Afghani University sustained extensive damage, with approximately 30 students and professors injured.
