Officials from the I Marine Expeditionary Force declared Ortiz Canseco deceased on June 27, stating he was lost at sea during integrated training. Ortiz Canseco enlisted in April 2023 and served as a 0311 Rifleman before his assignment to the USS Anchorage. He was a recipient of the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
This incident is the latest involving missing U.S. military members. In May, two U.S. Army soldiers went missing in Morocco during military exercises and were later found deceased after falling from a cliff.
