4 Jul
Summary
- Armed fighters launched coordinated attacks across five Malian locations on Saturday.
- Attacks targeted northern towns with government and Russian forces, and a town south of Bamako.
- A prison in Kenieroba was reportedly attacked, with fighting ongoing in several areas.

On Saturday, armed fighters launched coordinated assaults across five locations in Mali, intensifying the country's ongoing security crisis. The attacks occurred in areas including Aguelhok and Anefis in the north, Gao and Sevare in the center, and Kenieroba to the south of the capital, Bamako. Fighting began around 5am local time across these sites.
The Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), a Tuareg-led group, confirmed its fighters attacked Anefis in the northeastern Kidal region. This town, along with Aguelhok, is one of the last areas where the Malian army maintained a presence in the Kidal region following earlier rebel gains in April.
In the central city of Gao, gunfire and rockets targeted a military camp. Meanwhile, explosions were heard in Sevare, and a prison in Kenieroba was also reportedly under attack. These events follow high-profile rebel attacks in April that targeted the capital's airport and seized army bases in the north.
